How to use PatchO Comfort Companions

From morning wobbles to bedtime resistance, PatchO is here to support your family through daily transitions, big feelings, overstimulation and sensory days — gently, naturally, and playfully. Each patch uses the power of aromatherapy and a friendly PatchO Pal to turn tricky moments into smoother, more comforting routines.

1. Peel & Stick Where It Works for You

Gently peel the patch from the sheet and stick it onto your child’s clothing — near the shoulder, collar, or chest is ideal. For the younger ones, we recommend sticking the patch somewhere little fingers can’t reach, like the upper back or shoulder.

The scent travels gently to their nose and stays with them through their day or night. If your little one finds the scent a bit strong, you can place it further away, lower on their clothing, on their backpacks, hats, or if used during bedtime, on the bedside table or the bed head. Parents sometimes like to wear one too — because calm is contagious. Also, it can be a lovely way to share the routine with your child, model calm, and give yourself a gentle pause before heading into the chaos.

Note: Don’t apply directly to the skin, and wash your hands after handling the patch (it's gentle, but always good to be safe).

Safety first! Always use PatchO as directed. For details on age recommendations, sensitivities, and proper use, read our PatchO Safety guidelines and the Safe use section of our FAQ for common questions.

2. Choose Your Moments

PatchO is perfect for routines, transitions, or anytime life feels a little too much. Try it during:

  • Morning Meltdowns when it’s time to get dressed or leave the house
  • Tears at daycare drop-off or first-time situations
  • Afternoon overstimulation from noisy environments or busy play
  • Long restless travel days or when you need to run errands
  • Wind-down struggles when your child is tired but wired
  • Tantrums that seem to come out of nowhere

Here's an emotional and routine based visual summary of when PatchO might come in handy.

3. Let the PatchO Pal Help

Every patch features a PatchO Pal — a gentle Aussie animal companion who brings calm, imagination, and structure to your child’s day. Invite your child to say hello to their Pal and let them become part of the daily rhythm.

It’s not just about the scent — it’s also about connection. You can learn more about each of the Pals and more over at PatchO Pals HQ

4. One Patch = One Playful Shift

Each patch lasts about 6–8 hours. You can use one a day, or just when needed. Some families love using PatchO daily, others save them for those bigger feelings or new routines.

For younger toddlers (ages 2–3), we recommend occasional use only, especially during calm, familiar moments. Learn more from our PatchO Safety Page.

5. Keep it Special, Keep it Simple

To preserve the effectiveness of the aromatherapy (and the novelty), avoid overuse. Kids respond beautifully when PatchO becomes part of a special routine — like bed time wind-downs. Pick what works for your family and link it to those moments that you need it most.

Over time, the scent and visual of the PatchO Pal becomes a comforting anchor — helping them regulate and respond more calmly during transitions.
